Home School Mum Life | Home education, Flexi-schooling, family wellness, parenting tips, and real countryside living
Welcome to Home School Mum Life — the podcast where learning happens in muddy fields, messy kitchens, and occasionally… in an actual workbook (if we’re lucky). I’m so glad you’re here. I’m SJ — a former teacher, qualified personal trainer, farmer’s wife, and full-time mum navigating the wonderfully chaotic world of flexi-schooling and home education. We live deep in the countryside, where our days are a mix of phonics, puddle-jumping, garden PE, and the odd runaway sheep. You know — the usual. This podcast is for midlife mums like me, juggling education, wellness, hormones, and a million other things — all without a school bell to keep us on track. Whether you’re flexi-schooling, home educating full time, or just trying to survive until bedtime, you’ll find honesty, humour, and a few helpful tips along the way. Each week, I’ll share stories from our own learning journey, teaching tips from my classroom days, how I sneak in self-care and fitness, and what it’s really like living this homeschool life on a farm. Expect solo episodes, guest chats with fellow mums and educators, and down-to-earth reviews of days out and activities — because sometimes, we all need a plan that doesn’t end with someone crying in the car park. And this season, I’m excited to be partnering with Mother Cuppa — a range of herbal teas that support women’s wellness, especially through the wild ride of perimenopause and mum life. So pop the kettle on, grab your brew, and take a moment for you. No pressure. No perfection. Just real-life home education and healthy living — one muddy footprint at a time. This is Home School Mum Life. Testosterone and Menopause
Menopause often brings to mind declining estrogen levels, but testosterone plays a crucial role in women's health too. While commonly associated with men, this hormone is just as vital for women, particularly during and after menopause.
Testosterone in women helps maintain energy, libido, muscle strength, and cognitive function. If you are struggling with any of these things then it might be worth investigating.
In this episode I share my experience with testosterone as part of my HRT journey.

In today's fast-paced world, convenience often trumps conscientious eating, it's easy to succumb to the allure of ready-made meals and snacks. However, amid this sea of choices, lies a category of foods that have sparked concerns among health experts – ultra-processed foods.
Ultra-processed foods are products that undergo extensive processing, often containing additives, preservatives, and little to no whole ingredients. These foods are typically high in sugar, unhealthy fats, and sodium while lacking essential nutrients. Regular consumption of ultra-processed foods has been linked to various health issues, including obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
So, how can you spot these culprits lurking in your shopping cart? The answer lies in mastering the art of reading food labels.
In todays episode I help you navigate through the maze of ingredients.
